# Human and agent delivery workflows

Start with the work you need to do: prepare a draft for human review, create a buyer agreement, manage a supplier proposal, or continue an existing delivery. For an agreed project, submit materials, wait for the buyer, then export and verify the issued record.

Humans and delegated Agents use the same agreement, proposal and delivery services. The API is an entry point; authority comes from the authenticated actor and, for an Agent, its explicit grant. Agents can prepare complete buyer or supplier drafts, manage authorized supplier proposals, read selected projects, create buyer agreements, respond as the named supplier, submit materials, request corrections, request date changes and raise post-confirmation concerns. Confirming completion and issuing its result record each require separate authority. These actions do not independently verify the work or execute payment.

## Supplier proposals (API 1.8)

Supplier initiation uses the same proposal service as the human workspace. Five
permissions are separate: `CREATE_PROPOSAL`, `UPDATE_PROPOSAL`,
`PUBLISH_PROPOSAL`, `RESPOND_PROPOSAL`, and `WITHDRAW_PROPOSAL`. `CREATE_DRAFT`
still only prepares an unsent draft for human review; old grants gain no new action.

Human authorization selects `proposalIds` independently of `projectIds`. New
proposals created by a credential enter that credential's proposal scope. The
authorization screen explicitly includes the final project created from an
authorized proposal's acceptance. That linkage is recorded in the signed authority
history before the buyer decision, or before a supplier agent proceeds. It does
not grant access to any other project or grant permission to accept delivery.

| Route under `/api/agents/v1` | Required permission |
| --- | --- |
| POST `/proposals` | `CREATE_PROPOSAL` |
| GET `/proposals` or `/proposals/{id}` | Exact proposal read scope |
| POST `/proposals/{id}/update` | `UPDATE_PROPOSAL` |
| POST `/proposals/{id}/publish` | `PUBLISH_PROPOSAL` |
| POST `/proposals/{id}/respond` | `RESPOND_PROPOSAL` |
| POST `/proposals/{id}/withdraw` | `WITHDRAW_PROPOSAL` |
| POST `/proposals/{id}/handoff` | A granted proposal action; pauses writes |

Creation accepts `{requestId, expectedVersion:0, recipientActorId,
recipientReference, terms}`. `terms` uses the native full agreement input without
`requestId`, `revisionOf`, or `confirmationDigest`. Publishing requires the named
buyer's exact workspace contact reference. It does not send email or accept the
proposal; the returned `recipientUrl` opens the existing human review page for
that authenticated buyer. A proposal ID alone grants no access.

All commands wrap their input in `{expectedProposalHead, automationRevision,
input}` from a fresh proposal read. Publication/withdrawal input contains a stable
`requestId` and `expectedVersion`. Updates contain the full replacement draft.
Buyer response input contains `requestId`, `proposalDigest`, `action`, `reason`,
and the current `confirmationDigest` when required. Do not manufacture consent.
Save the envelope before sending and retry it unchanged after an unknown result.

Both downloadable clients support `proposals`, `proposal-create INPUT.json`,
`proposal-inspect PROPOSAL_ID`, `proposal-prepare PROPOSAL_ID COMMAND INPUT.json
ENVELOPE.json`, and `proposal-send PROPOSAL_ID COMMAND ENVELOPE.json`.

The buyer sees published terms only. Acceptance creates the final buyer-bound
agreement in `AWAITING_SUPPLIER`; the named supplier still needs `RESPOND_TERMS`
to confirm that exact agreement before `SUBMIT_MATERIALS` can submit. Neither
publication nor buyer acceptance grants `CONFIRM_COMPLETION`,
`ISSUE_RESULT_RECORD`, fixed-signer authority, or financial management.

`decisionActions` evaluates each response independently. A human-required buyer
acceptance does not automatically forbid requesting changes or declining.
Required subject verification, fixed signing and deadlines remain enforced by
the native service. Only a human can resume a paused proposal in `/agents`.

Agent API automates this agreement workflow. [API integration acceptance](https://prooftask.com/materials#api) is a separate delivery use case with its own preparation requirements.

## Connect once, then continue

The daily flow remains: agree the result → confirm the terms → submit a precise
version → buyer acceptance → issue and export a verifiable record. Connection is a
separate first-time step. Funding and required signing appear only when needed.
An Agent represents the person and workspace that granted access.

Read `GET /api/agents/v1/capabilities` before connecting. It reports available
purchase support, supported clients and the current connection/issuance behavior.

Download the [Node.js client](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.mjs)
(Node.js 24+) or the [Python client](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.py)
(Python 3.10+), inspect its source, and run commands from the download folder.
The examples below use Node.js. For these connection and read commands, replace
`node agent-client.mjs` with `python3 agent-client.py` (or `python agent-client.py`
on Windows). Neither client needs additional packages.

For a first read, use a project in your workspace and leave write permissions off.
If you have no project, [create an agreement](https://prooftask.com/workspace/start)
or [try public discovery without a credential](https://prooftask.com/developers#discover).

Start the connection:

```sh
node agent-client.mjs connect-start "Delivery assistant" connection.json
```

Open the returned `verificationUrl`, sign in or register, and choose the workspace.
Match `userCode`, choose your collaboration role and the exact projects to read,
and approve the expiry. Leave tasks and write permissions unselected for this
first read. For later automation, choose the required tasks and review the exact
permissions before approving.
Only after that browser step, retrieve the credential:

```sh
node agent-client.mjs connect-poll connection.json credential.json
```

Continue only when the client prints `"state": "CONNECTED"`. It saves the private
credential in `credential.json` without printing the token. On macOS or Linux:

```sh
export PROOFTASK_AGENT_TOKEN_FILE="$PWD/credential.json"
node agent-client.mjs me
```

On Windows PowerShell:

```powershell
$env:PROOFTASK_AGENT_TOKEN_FILE = (Resolve-Path ./credential.json).Path
node agent-client.mjs me
```

Confirm the returned `tenantId` and `organizationId`. Replace `delivery_YOUR_UUID`
with a value from `projectIds`, then read that authorized project:

```sh
node agent-client.mjs inspect delivery_YOUR_UUID
```

The response includes `project.taskId`, `project.state`, `availableActions`,
`blockedActions` and `humanUrl`. The human URL opens the same project in the
workspace. Reading creates no submission or acceptance.

Repeat polling only after the returned `interval` seconds. `PENDING` grants no
access; `SLOW_DOWN` increases the interval. Connection requests expire in ten
minutes. The private `deviceCode` stays in the local file, never in a URL. Approval
requires a current human session and explicit matching-code confirmation. Approved
polling can recover an uncertain response during that short connection window.
These are Prooftask device-style JSON endpoints, **not an OAuth or MCP service**.
Neither account creation nor permission consent is silently performed by an Agent.
Manual credential creation in `/agents` remains available.
Keep both saved files private. If the connection expires or is denied, start again
with a new connection filename; the client never overwrites an existing file.

The [Python client](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.py) requires
Python 3.10+ and no packages. Replace `node agent-client.mjs` with
`python3 agent-client.py` for connection, capabilities, inspect, saved commands,
issuance and export. Node additionally provides public specification discovery,
creation preparation and local fingerprint commands. Both clients identify
themselves, require HTTPS, refuse redirects, bind saved credentials to an origin,
and write new secret/request files with private permissions. Use the operating
system's secret-store and access controls when integrating into production.

A connection error, HTML edge response or timeout does not prove a command failed.
Keep its saved request and requestId, inspect the project, and retry the same command
when appropriate. Network availability must be checked from intended regions; these
clients do not imply universal connectivity or override regional payment support.

## Continue an accepted result without repeating acceptance

`CONFIRM_COMPLETION` and `ISSUE_RESULT_RECORD` are separate permissions. The buyer
can retain acceptance while allowing the Agent to complete issuance afterwards.
An acceptance-only credential always records the decision without issuing a result
or consuming a credit. A credential explicitly granted both actions attempts a
separate issuance after acceptance. A failed issuance preserves the acceptance,
rolls back its credit debit, and exposes the pending continuation. Retrying the
acceptance does not create another decision or consume another credit.
The project response includes `recordIssuance`: acceptance readiness, coverage,
issuance status, continuation state and the human funding link.

```sh
node agent-client.mjs prepare-issuance delivery_YOUR_UUID issuance.json
# Review the saved exact agreement, event head, confirmation and maxCredits: 1.
node agent-client.mjs send delivery_YOUR_UUID issue-record issuance.json
```

A successful issuance consumes at most one existing authorized Result Credit for
the result unit. It never buys credits or charges a payment method. Available free
coverage follows the same workspace policy; prepaid funds require an applicable
payer authorization. Merely holding a paid balance does not grant spending authority.
Existing covered results do not incur another debit.

If coverage is missing, the acceptance is retained and `continuation` is
`WAITING_COVERAGE`. Open `humanUrl` for the payer to choose/authorize coverage or
complete a supported checkout. The durable continuation is checked by the normal
worker (approximately every 15 seconds). Before issuing, it rechecks the current
parent authority, exact project, expiry, pause revision, agreement digest, event
head and acceptance ID. Changed state, pause, expiry or revocation stops automatic
continuation with `NEEDS_REVIEW`; read the project and explicitly prepare a new
request after the issue is resolved. Human completion is also safe: the existing
record is reused without a second debit or decision. Retries and exports do not
consume another credit. Legacy billing contracts retain their recorded terms.

## One complete path: submit materials, await a human, obtain the record

This path starts with a human-created agreement and uses only `SUBMIT_MATERIALS`.
The buyer keeps the acceptance decision. Polling is sufficient; webhooks and saved
jobs are optional. This is not an agent runtime, automatic acceptance or payment flow.

Before any active test, the environment owner must identify the HTTPS origin,
authorized buyer/supplier accounts, exact workspace and organization IDs, permitted
projects/actions, expiry/revocation owner, callback target and email recipients,
and whether signatures or charges can occur. A name containing “sandbox”, or
`purpose: TEST`, does not prove isolation. If these facts are unavailable, continue
with anonymous discovery and stop before creating credentials or business objects.

1. In the normal human workspace, the buyer creates and sends the exact agreement.
   The named supplier opens their invitation under their own identity, links the
   project to their workspace and accepts those terms. Confirm the current project
   ID and digest. These are explicit human prerequisites, not hidden API steps.
2. The supplier opens `/agents`, selects that project, enables only
   `SUBMIT_MATERIALS`, and chooses an expiry. Save the one-time credential in the
   integration's secret store as `PROOFTASK_AGENT_TOKEN`; use `PROOFTASK_ORIGIN` only
   for the explicitly authorized HTTPS origin. Never reuse another person's session.
3. Download [agent-client.mjs](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.mjs)
   and [verify-result.mjs](https://prooftask.com/developers/verify-result.mjs) into
   one directory. Node 24+ is sufficient; these two tools need no npm dependencies.
4. Run `node agent-client.mjs me`. Compare `tenantId` (workspace boundary) and
   `organizationId` against the owner's authorized context; retain `id` (grant),
   `agentId`, `delegatedBy`, actions and expiry. The role is not blanket business
   authority or independent proof of a company mandate. Stop on a mismatch.
5. Run `node agent-client.mjs inspect delivery_YOUR_UUID`. Check `taskId`,
   `agreement.digest`, `agreement.version`, `automation`, `availableActions` and
   `blockedActions`. The human URL identifies that project without granting access.
6. Obtain the actual original files in the agreed storage. Run
   `node agent-client.mjs hash ./report.pdf` for each file. Create `submission.json`
   following the public `Submit` schema. For the **first** submission with no review,
   the shape below applies. Replace every placeholder, the byte size and the summary;
   supply one item per actual criterion. For a replacement, copy the current
   `submission.id` and applicable correction/evidence `review.id` instead of null.

```json
{
  "agreementDigest": "COPY_EXACT_PROJECT_AGREEMENT_DIGEST",
  "previousSubmissionId": null,
  "respondsToReviewId": null,
  "summary": "Describe the actual completed report and its originals.",
  "items": [{
    "criterionId": "copy_actual_criterion_id",
    "summary": "Describe the evidence for this criterion.",
    "references": ["https://your-authorized-storage.example/report.pdf"],
    "files": [{
      "name": "report.pdf",
      "reference": "https://your-authorized-storage.example/report.pdf",
      "size": 123,
      "sha256": "COPY_SHA256_FROM_THE_ACTUAL_FILE"
    }]
  }]
}
```

These are instructions and placeholders, not a runnable business submission.
A hash identifies bytes; it does not establish the buyer's access or file quality.

7. Run `node agent-client.mjs prepare delivery_YOUR_UUID submit submission.json pending-submit.json`.
   This reads the project, assigns a UUID once and saves its head/revision with your
   input. Review and durably retain the **entire** file, plus workspace/organization,
   grant ID, project ID, agreement digest and your originating workflow reference.
   Preparation does not submit anything or establish human approval.
8. After the intended submission is authorized, run
   `node agent-client.mjs send delivery_YOUR_UUID submit pending-submit.json`.
   An HTTP 200/current `SUBMITTED` means the material command committed (or was
   replayed), not that the buyer accepted. Save the returned submission ID. An
   unreadable response or timeout leaves the outcome unknown; preserve the file
   and follow the recovery section before any new operation.
9. The buyer reviews the exact originals in their own workspace. Poll `inspect`
   at an appropriate interval. Match the saved request to `project.submission.requestId`
   and the decision's `review.payload.submissionId` to that submission ID. If a newer
   submission is current, reconcile the original `SUBMIT`/`REVIEW` in `project.events`;
   do not attribute an unrelated current decision to your saved action.
10. Follow `WAIT_FOR_HUMAN` and its exact reason/link. To request a pause, prepare
    and send `handoff` with a reason as described below. Only the human can resume;
    reread afterward. On rejection, withdrawal, supersession or an unknown state,
    stop the corresponding writes or reliance. A legitimate wait is not a failed
    submission. Correction/evidence requests require a deliberately planned response.
11. Run `node agent-client.mjs export delivery_YOUR_UUID result.json` after checking
    the intended decision/version. Saving succeeds only for the exact read head;
    changes require another read. Retain the complete file and original-file manifest.
    Export is not another acceptance, record-purchase instruction or payment.
12. Obtain `independently-trusted-keys.json` through a separately confirmed channel,
    then run `node verify-result.mjs result.json independently-trusted-keys.json ACTUAL_UTC_TIME`.
    Substitute your actual canonical UTC observation time. Inspect each verification
    dimension: historical signature, current status, originals and organizational
    authority are separate. Package keys alone do not establish trust. Record the
    outcome, remaining unknowns and next responsible person in the original system.

## Authorize and stop an agent

Open **Current workspace → Agents and automation** (`/agents`). This is a connection setup step, not an extra step for each delivery. Choose your collaboration role, select the tasks to delegate, then select the exact projects and proposals. All write permissions start off. For read-only access, select the scope without selecting tasks. **Adjust individual permissions** lets you review or change the actions included by a task.

**Confirm completion** and **Issue result records** are separate approvals and are never included in a task preset. Completion also requires its second consent checkbox. Review the selected permissions, scope and expiry before saving the one-time credential in your agent's secret store. A task selection does not replace each operation's exact agreement/acceptance confirmation or required human signature.

Credentials expire within 30 days and no later than the underlying organization grant. They are independent of browser sessions: signing out does not stop an agent. Revocation in `/agents`, expiry, removal of organization membership, or removal of the matching self-service account stops access. Only credential hashes are stored. Reauthorize with a new credential when needed; credentials cannot create further credentials or manage users.

The grant cannot confer more authority than its authorizer. Email-verified, self-declared accounts retain `ATTESTED` assurance. Organization administrators and platform operators cannot use their administration role to perform customer decisions or issue these business credentials. The initial management page lists your own credentials; it is not an organization-wide service account directory.

On a project, **Agents and human handoff** opens the control panel. Pause stops all agent writes to that exact agreement version in the current workspace. Reads and human actions remain available. An agent can request handoff with a reason, but cannot resume itself. The human resumes explicitly after reviewing the current project. Each pause/resume increments `automation.revision`, so queued commands from before the handoff cannot execute. Buyer and supplier workspaces control their respective agents independently.

### Choose the matching credential

| Credential | Scope | Maximum lifetime | Signing out |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Project Agent (`ptag_`) | Selected projects/proposals and granted actions; authorized creations and exact proposal-to-project links | 30 days, bounded by the underlying organization grant | Does not revoke it; use `/agents` to revoke |
| [Participation assistant](https://prooftask.com/developers/participation-agents.md) (`ptpa_`) | One accepted participation item; no project or workspace access | 24 hours, bounded by its source session and access | Ends access when the authorizing session ends |

The credentials are not interchangeable. Expiry, revocation or loss of required source authority stops subsequent access.

## Explore publicly before authorizing an agent

Download and inspect [the Node 24+ example client](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.mjs). It has no dependencies. These commands require no account or token and send no credential even if `PROOFTASK_AGENT_TOKEN` is set:

```sh
node agent-client.mjs discover "automation"
node agent-client.mjs specification business-automation 2
```

The example pins version 2. For a new draft, use the exact version and digest returned by discovery; never silently upgrade an already agreed version.

`discover` reads `/api/discover?q=...`; it searches public specifications, not private projects or a supplier marketplace. `specification` requires an explicit version and returns the immutable specification including its digest. Keep both the version and digest for preparation. Reading does not create an agreement or grant authority.

Use the [public discovery OpenAPI](https://prooftask.com/api/public/openapi.json) for the parameter and draft-preparation schemas. The [automation acceptance guide](https://prooftask.com/guides/automation-acceptance) explains how to choose observable checks. For a human draft, open the linked specification and enter project-specific facts. For authenticated operations, follow the complete path above.

## Durable execution and read access

Every Agent request rechecks the live delegation, current parent authority and exact
project scope. The browser session that originally approved it is not its execution
lifetime. Supplier responses, submissions, record reads, status queries and exports
use the same delegated identity. Pausing stops writes; revocation or ended authority
stops access. Internal supplier credentials expire no later than the delegation,
parent authority, applicable project access and the short operation lifetime.

## Prepare an unsent draft from a CRM or agent

Use `POST /api/agents/v1/drafts` with a credential authorized for `CREATE_DRAFT` only. Its live parent needs `RESULT_DRAFT_CREATE` in the exact workspace and organization. This permission neither includes `CREATE_PROJECT` nor extends the credential to the eventual project.

```json
{
  "requestId": "b8e8f5d9-898d-4fae-a9b5-2781e4c16987",
  "source": "CRM",
  "sourceReference": "deal_123",
  "title": "CRM delivery report",
  "scope": "Proposed report and handover scope for human review",
  "buyer": "Proposed buyer",
  "supplier": "Proposed supplier",
  "criteria": [],
  "references": ["https://example.com/deals/123"]
}
```

The current OpenAPI contract also accepts `schema: "prooftask.agreement-draft/v1"` and the
human editor's business content: `buyerName`, `providerName`, `baselineStatement`,
`deadline`, `termsPolicy`, `legalContext`, `commercialReference`,
`subjectRequirements`, `recipientActorId`, `recipientReference`, `templateBinding`
and proposed signing requirements. Legacy `buyer`/`supplier` aliases remain valid;
conflicting aliases are rejected. Dates are explicit UTC instants. Partial draft
terms remain partial and are checked again before formal creation.

`signing` accepts `enabled`, `method` (`EXTERNAL` or `NATIVE`), `counterparty`,
`contact`, `principal`, `agreementSignBy` and `acceptanceSignBy`. Alternatively,
`externalSigning` accepts a complete validated proposed policy. Neither imports
signatures or consent. `legalContext.documents`, when supplied, is reference
context; human review uses current documents and a fresh confirmation.

The draft never accepts `confirmationDigest`, review decisions, execution identity,
verified signing evidence or project status. Preparing recipient details does not
send an invitation. The authorizing person reviews the original content in the
existing editor and explicitly confirms the resulting operation.

The response contains `draftId`, a role-matched `humanUrl`, and `state: DRAFT`. Both downloaded clients support `draft INPUT.json`. Save the request ID in that file before running the command; it never sends an invitation or creates project permissions. Keep the request ID/body unchanged on retry. Optional `specification` accepts a known public `id` and exact `version` as reference context. Only the authorizing human in that workspace can open this private preparation. Set `role: "SUPPLIER"` to prepare a supplier proposal at `/provider/new?draft=…`; `BUYER` is the default and opens `/deliveries/new?draft=…`. The matching role is checked again when the human saves it. Nothing is sent, agreed, accepted, signed or paid. The human reviews/edits, supplies normal agreement requirements and explicitly confirms creation with separate sending authority. No old permissions, acceptance or payment carry forward.

### Complete business draft input

For compatibility, the flat editor fields below remain accepted. Do not combine
them with `schema`, `deadline`, `termsPolicy`, `legalContext`, `signing`,
`externalSigning` or `templateBinding` in one request; ambiguous mixtures are rejected.
New API 1.8 integrations should use the nested content contract above.

The intake accepts the same unsent business values as the human editor for both
roles. Use `buyerName` and `providerName`; legacy `buyer` and `supplier` are still
accepted, but conflicting aliases are rejected. Besides title, scope and criteria,
optional fields are:

- `baselineStatement`, `recordPurpose`, `contractBasis`, `commercialReference`,
  `contractClauses` for purpose, starting situation and contract basis.
- `deadlineInstant`, `reviewDeadlineInstant`, `retainUntilInstant` for canonical
  UTC dates, or empty strings for unfinished fields; `originalCustodian`,
  `originalLocation`, `originalAccess` for material custody and access.
- `agreementSharing`, `sharingRecipients`, `recipientActorId`, `recipientReference`
  and `subjectRequirements` for parties, sharing and proposed proof requirements.
- `signingEnabled`, `signingMethod` (`NATIVE` or `EXTERNAL`),
  `signingAgreementInstant`, `signingAcceptanceInstant` for proposed signing.
  `templateSelection` references an existing selection, never a license or binding.

These fields prefill the current human editor, not a separate approval flow.
Workspace autosave and intake share draft validation; unfinished values remain
unsent. The human still reviews current documents, template access, fixed signer
identity, actual service availability and final terms. Intake cannot supply
confirmation digests, signed evidence, payment authority or project permissions.
Identity requirements persist through workspace saving and private-draft login
restoration. Current workspace minimum requirements are still enforced.

Project responses include live `nextAction` with responsible party, action, reason, due date, version and expected head. `NEEDS_YOU` is viewer-relative; `agentAction` is not authorization. Read the same current view before using `availableActions`/`blockedActions`. Follow-ups are fixed delivery-chain notifications, not an automation API. The source repository's `docs/PROACTIVE_BUSINESS_FLOW.md` describes the operational policy.

## API

Base: `https://prooftask.com/api/agents/v1`. Use `Authorization: Bearer <credential>` over HTTPS. Do not pass tokens in URLs or request bodies. An agent credential is invalid for customer sessions, organization management and internal administration APIs.

The public [OpenAPI 3.1.1 contract](https://prooftask.com/api/agents/v1/openapi.json) describes the available operations, including two public preparation operations, command inputs, response shapes, delegation requirements and recovery behavior. Import it into your existing HTTP tooling or agent integration. Production creation also requires current legal documents and reviewed confirmation; schema validation cannot establish consent, file access, state or authority. CI validates real successful and rejected HTTP exchanges with an independent JSON Schema implementation.

`GET /projects/{id}` returns `{project, automation, humanUrl, availableActions, blockedActions, decisionActions, note}`.
`decisionActions` evaluates the specific decision, with `action`, `decision`,
`allowed`, `reason`, `nextAction` and `humanUrl`. A review group can permit correction
or evidence requests while its final acceptance/rejection needs the fixed signer.
The same applies to supplier responses: accepting may require a person even when
requesting changes is permitted. Check the specific decision; execution rechecks
the same requirements against the current version. Each blocked action includes `action`, `reason`, `nextAction: "WAIT_FOR_HUMAN"`, `requiredHumanAction` and a scoped `humanUrl`. Paused actions, missing agreement signatures and required human-signed review decisions are excluded from `availableActions`. Follow the human instruction and link, then reread the project after the person acts; do not blindly retry. The signing link opens the authenticated Prooftask workspace, not a reusable provider signing session. Agents cannot sign for the fixed human signers or resume automation. `project` is the same view used by the workspace, including `agreement.digest`, `headEventHash`, submission/review IDs, criteria and applicable confirmation digests. `availableActions` is a permission/state hint; current deadlines, original-file requirements and all existing business validation still apply.

`GET /projects/{id}/record` returns the existing signed package. It is historical at its `issuedAt`; callers should request `/status` with a fresh UUID nonce when they need current reliance. The status response contains the record it describes and is valid for five minutes. The standard export is an interchange envelope around that same package, so it does not create a second receipt. `externalAssertions` is compatibility metadata: the current built-in assertion is the party-declared baseline with `DECLARED` status. It does not mean an external vendor, registry, identity provider or file store verified the work.

### Export a directly verifiable file

Prefer `POST /projects/{id}/exports/result-package`. Read the project first and send:

```json
{
  "expectedAgreementDigest": "copy project.agreement.digest",
  "expectedEventHash": "copy project.headEventHash",
  "nonce": "generate a fresh UUIDv4"
}
```

These placeholders are instructions, not valid request values. The downloadable client's `export` command reads and fills them. The response is `{schema:"prooftask.result-review/v1",record,trust,status}`: `record` is the signed Result Package v2 JWS; `status` includes the signed nonce, its own record and five-minute validity window. Save the entire response and load it in `/audit/buyer-confirmed` or the offline verifier. Confirm issuer keys through an independently trusted channel. The included key bundle cannot establish its own trust, and company authority requires a separately approved relying-party policy.

Export accepts an active read-only grant and remains available during human pause. Exact project scope, live parent authority and named supplier checks still apply. A mismatched agreement/head returns HTTP 409; reread before exporting. The request is limited to 4096 bytes. Export is read-only and does not issue an additional business confirmation, spend a result credit or modify the event history. Repeated exports can have different issuance times and nonces.

Both legacy responses (`record` and `exports/standard-record`) remain unchanged and are accepted directly by the unified browser/offline verifier when supplied with independently trusted keys. Their unsigned metadata is explicitly reported as `UNSIGNED_AGENT_METADATA_NOT_VERIFIED`. Altering it cannot establish external proof, payment, company authority or current status. Unknown envelope fields or versions are rejected; signed content remains strictly checked.

Project IDs are exact agreement versions. Access does not follow a revision link or grant access to other projects in the same organization. Newly created buyer agreements are added only to the creating credential (up to 50 projects). Selected supplier proposals and their exact accepted projects use the explicit linkage described above; this does not cover later agreement revisions. A successor agreement must be explicitly authorized again.

Agents can prepare supplier drafts and, with the separate proposal permissions, create, revise and publish proposals to named buyers. Publishing returns a recipient review URL; it does not send an invitation email or accept the terms. New recipient setup, invitation email sending, issuing replacement agreement terms, receipt sharing and final concern resolution retain their human workflows. Date-change requests and raising concerns are separately opt-in agent actions; they do not authorize an agent to resolve a dispute or resume paused reliance. Agents do not receive reusable supplier invitation links.

### Creating a project

This guide is publicly available at [the Prooftask developer site](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-workflows.md); no repository access is needed.

Download [agent-client.mjs](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-client.mjs) and the [complete input example](https://prooftask.com/developers/agent-project.json). Replace the example parties, scope, criteria, dates and original-storage details. Explicitly choose the purpose, contract basis and sharing policy. The example uses `TEST`; it must not be treated as a real business commitment. An existing contract needs its exact reference and relevant clauses; do not silently choose a standalone agreement.

```sh
node agent-client.mjs prepare-create agent-project.json prepared-project.json
# Review all of prepared-project.json and the displayed operation confirmation.
# Only after explicit approval, commit this exact agreement:
node agent-client.mjs create prepared-project.json
# After an uncertain response, retry the same saved file without editing it.
```

`prepare-create` does not require a credential, create an agreement or record consent. It reads the current documents, calls the confirmation preview, and saves the complete input with a stable UUIDv4 and exact digest to a new owner-only file. It refuses to overwrite files or silently refresh an already prepared input. `create` requires an authorized credential with `CREATE_PROJECT`; it commits the saved input. If documents changed, prepare a **new** file from the unprepared input and review it again before creating.

For raw HTTP, use the following public preparation operations on the site origin (not relative to `/api/agents/v1`). They have operation-level root servers and `security: []` in OpenAPI:

| Method and absolute path | Input | Output |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GET `/api/acceptance/legal-config` | None | `documents`, issuer details and configured business prerequisites |
| POST `/api/acceptance/confirmation-preview` | `{legalContext, operation:"AGREEMENT"}` with the fetched documents | `confirmation`, including exact effect, documents and `digest` |

Copy `confirmation.digest` into `confirmationDigest` only after reviewing the terms and confirming the intended operation. POST the complete prepared JSON to `/api/agents/v1/projects`. The public contract requires `legalContext` and `confirmationDigest` for new production agreements. A preview is read-only; its digest alone does not establish consent.

`POST /projects` takes the public OpenAPI `CreateProject` schema: a UUIDv4 `requestId`, title, scope, party names, future deadline, baseline statement, criterion array, `materialPolicy: "FILE_DIGESTS"`, explicit `termsPolicy`, current `legalContext` and its `confirmationDigest`.

Read `/api/acceptance/legal-config` for current documents. Review the purpose, contract basis, sharing and dates, then use `/api/acceptance/confirmation-preview` with `{legalContext, operation:"AGREEMENT"}` for the exact digest. Do not manufacture consent or assume agreement terms. This operation commits a buyer agreement, not a private draft. Only new projects are supported through the agent endpoint (`revisionOf` is rejected); the workspace handles renegotiation. Invite the supplier from the project link returned in `humanUrl`.

### Project commands and retries

Read the project immediately before planning a write. Every command uses this envelope:

```json
{
  "expectedEventHash": "copy the exact current project.headEventHash",
  "automationRevision": 0,
  "input": {
    "requestId": "a fresh UUIDv4 for this intended action",
    "reason": "Explain the operation"
  }
}
```

`input` uses the public OpenAPI `Respond`, `Submit`, or `Review` schema. A handoff input contains only `requestId` and `reason`.

- **Respond:** exact `agreementDigest`, `action`, `actorId` equal to `/me.delegatedBy`, `actorRole` equal to the authenticated role (or the existing agreed supplier role), `authorityAttested:true`, reason, and the exact agreement `confirmationDigest` when required. Current supplier identity cannot be changed by an agent. For a buyer-originated emailed invitation, first bind it to the named supplier's workspace through the existing human flow. For an accepted supplier proposal, use its exact authorized final-project linkage, then separately confirm that final agreement.
- **Submit:** exact `agreementDigest`, `previousSubmissionId` (or `null`), `respondsToReviewId` (or `null`), summary and one item per agreed criterion. Each item includes `criterionId`, summary, references, and exact file names, references, byte sizes and SHA-256 digests. Originals stay in the agreed storage location. A digest alone does not prove access or correctness.
- **Date revision / concern:** use the public `DateRevision` fields (`requestId`, `agreementDigest`, `expectedEventHash`, `purpose: "DELIVERY" | "REVIEW"`, `reason`) or the public `Concern` schema (also requiring `confirmationId`). Both buyer and named supplier agents may act only with the separately granted action. A request pauses the applicable delivery or confirmation; humans issue replacement terms or resolve concerns.
- **Review:** exact `agreementDigest`, current `submissionId`, `expectedEventHash`, action, reason, nextAction and criterion decisions. Formal `ACCEPT` needs every criterion `MET`, original access and exact `checkedFiles`, plus the current acceptance `confirmationDigest` when required. Permission to request changes does not permit acceptance.

Persist the **entire envelope** before sending. On a network timeout retry the exact envelope with the same request ID. Successful retries return `replayed:true` and the **current** project view without a second business event. Reusing an ID with different content fails. A fresh read followed by a new request ID is required when replanning after a stale-state error. Do not silently overwrite the expected head/revision of a queued command.

Errors return `{error,retryable:false,nextAction}` and, where applicable, `requiredHumanAction`, `humanUrl` or `documentationUrl`. `REVIEW_CREATION_REQUIREMENTS` points to the public first-agreement guide; `WAIT_FOR_HUMAN` on signing errors provides a human instruction and project signing link. These links are returned only after current project access is checked. `AUTH_INVALID` (401) asks the owner to reauthorize; `FORBIDDEN_AGENT_ACTION`/`FORBIDDEN_AGENT_PROJECT_SCOPE` (403) require different explicit authorization; `AGENT_PAUSED` (409) waits for a human; `AGENT_CHANGED_REFRESH_REQUIRED`, business stale errors and request conflicts (409) require rereading/replanning. Other business errors retain the existing exact codes. Automatic blind retries cannot fix permission, confirmation, date or material errors.

Malformed JSON, invalid field types and unsupported command fields return 400; oversized bodies return 413. Normal requests default to a 1,000,000-byte limit. A deployment without a configured export issuer returns 503 for portable export. Unknown routes return 404 and may omit `nextAction`.

Supplier/review writes use the existing update emails. A saved operation can return `emailUpdate` with `FAILED` or `DISABLED`; do not repeat the business decision to send another notification. The project stays saved, and the workspace exposes its notification controls. Handoff notes appear in the project. When project emails are enabled and the current recipient is eligible, Prooftask can send a reminder. Email delivery does not complete the handoff. Polling remains available. Product-level project event webhooks and persisted submission jobs are described in [the project event and saved-job guide](https://prooftask.com/developers/project-events.md). They reuse existing project permissions and business commands.

### Credential replacement and unknown results

For routine renewal, start a new connection and select **Renew connection** on the
existing grant in `/agents`, or use the same button for a manual credential. The
human reviews unchanged projects, proposals and actions plus a new expiry; tasks
do not need to be selected again. Existing completion authority still requires
explicit completion consent. Renewal does not add permissions. This preserves the grant,
Agent identity, saved jobs, webhook subscriptions and command replay keys. Every
previous credential immediately stops working. A signed `RENEW` authority event
records any expiry change; old signed bytes and prior validity windows stay intact.
Revoked grants cannot be renewed, and renewal cannot restore a revoked parent.

The following reconciliation rules apply when a **separate new grant** is created:

Save `{tenantId, organizationId, grantId, agentId, projectId, agreementDigest,
requestId, workflowReference}` with the full command envelope before sending;
retain `jobId` and submission ID when supplied. For this guide, `grantId` is `/me.id`.

A timeout, connection loss or invalid/truncated response is **unknown**, not a
rejection. With the same active grant, retry only the unchanged saved envelope
(or the same saved job), or read back the exact project. Do not generate another
request ID merely because the first acknowledgement was lost.

On `AUTH_INVALID`, stop writes and ask the owner to reauthorize. Jobs, webhook
subscriptions and command replay are bound to their original grant. A replacement
credential does not inherit them, even for the same human and project. A 404 for
an old job therefore does **not** prove that its submission never happened.

1. Confirm the new `/me` workspace, represented organization, authorizer, project
   scope and actions. A changed identity or missing access must go back to the
   owner; do not use another person's session to recover it.
2. Read the original exact project. Require its `taskId` and `agreement.digest`
   to match the saved operation. Find a `project.events` entry with `kind: SUBMIT`
   and the original `requestId`; verify the expected `actor.id`, organization and
   `actor.execution.grantId`/`agentId`. Read the recorded payload and corresponding
   submission/review IDs. For signed reliance, verify the exported original event
   with independently trusted keys; a business JSON read is not that verification.
3. If the matching operation exists, retain that result and **do not resubmit**.
   Follow the current state separately; a later submission, concern, rejection or
   withdrawal must not be replaced with the older outcome.
4. If it is absent, first establish that the old grant can no longer complete a
   pending request and that the authorized history is complete. Recheck the current
   head, version, actions and human decisions. Only then deliberately prepare and
   approve a new operation under the new grant. This is a new action, not replay
   of the old grant's job. If any fact is uncertain or history is inaccessible,
   stop and hand the saved identifiers/reason to the authorized owner.
5. Reauthorize callbacks separately if needed. Old subscription queues stop when
   their grant expires or is revoked; new subscriptions do not backfill history.
   Reconcile the exact project before starting new callback-driven side effects.

### Machine states and limits

| `project.state` | Meaning and next step |
| --- | --- |
| `AWAITING_SUPPLIER` | Named supplier reviews the exact terms. |
| `LOCKED` | Terms agreed; authorized supplier may prepare delivery. |
| `SUBMITTED` | Materials committed; buyer must decide on this submission. |
| `CHANGES_REQUESTED` / `AWAITING_EVIDENCE` | Plan a correction/evidence response against the exact current review; not acceptance. |
| `AGREEMENT_CHANGES_REQUESTED` | Human renegotiation required before delivery continues. |
| `SUPPLIER_DECLINED` / `BUYER_REJECTED` | Stop delivery actions for this agreement; retain the recorded reason. |
| `BUYER_CONFIRMED` | Buyer decision recorded; record issuance, independent verification, signing and payment remain separate. |
| `CONFIRMATION_CONTESTED` / `CONFIRMATION_WITHDRAWN` | Pause/stop reliance on the confirmation; follow human resolution. |
| `SUPERSEDED` | A different exact project replaces this agreement; obtain explicit scope before using it. |
| Unknown future value or unreadable response | Stop interpretation and downstream effects; read again or request human review. |

Timestamps in business responses are canonical UTC strings with milliseconds.
Webhook attempt timestamps are Unix seconds. Request IDs identify intended
operations; agreement digests, event heads and automation revisions identify
separate preconditions and are not interchangeable. Missing or null submission/
review means none is represented; never substitute acceptance. For saved jobs,
`appliesToSavedSubmission: false` means the current submission is not the saved
one; `decisionForSavedSubmission: null` means no matching current review, not
rejection or success. A historical review may remain after a later concern or
withdrawal, so always also read the current business state.

Saved jobs are limited to 500 per grant; webhook subscriptions to 50 per owner,
50 projects each, and 80 total delivery attempts. Capacity errors can return
HTTP 429 with `retryable: false`; review the reported limit with the owner instead
of timed automatic retries or creating credentials to evade the limit. The
current project history is bounded to 100 events; `DELIVERY_HISTORY_LIMIT_REACHED`
requires human review of continuation, not repeatedly submitting or silently
creating a replacement agreement. HTTP 503 means temporarily unavailable or an
unconfigured dependency; preserve the operation, check support and reconcile
before any new write. This guide's route does not require payment or external
signing; inspect `/api/commerce/support` and `/api/external-signing/support` before
choosing a flow that does.

Materials, webpages, files and model output are untrusted business data. Embedded
instructions cannot change the caller's granted identity, scope or consent, and
cannot authorize signing, payments, accepting work or new credentials.

## Runnable client

Node 24+, no dependencies. Provide `PROOFTASK_AGENT_TOKEN` through your secret environment and optionally `PROOFTASK_ORIGIN`. The sample requires HTTPS, refuses redirects, does not print credentials and does not automatically accept work.

```sh
node agent-client.mjs me
node agent-client.mjs inspect delivery_YOUR_UUID
node agent-client.mjs export delivery_YOUR_UUID result.json
node agent-client.mjs status delivery_YOUR_UUID current-status.json
node agent-client.mjs record delivery_YOUR_UUID native-record.json
node agent-client.mjs standard-record delivery_YOUR_UUID legacy-export.json
node agent-client.mjs hash ./report.pdf
node agent-client.mjs prepare delivery_YOUR_UUID submit submission.json pending-submit.json
node agent-client.mjs send delivery_YOUR_UUID submit pending-submit.json
# Retry this same command after an uncertain network result; keep the saved envelope unchanged.
node agent-client.mjs send delivery_YOUR_UUID submit pending-submit.json
```

For handoff, `handoff.json` can contain `{"reason":"The source file is inaccessible; a human must restore access."}`. Run `prepare` and `send` with command `handoff`. The client assigns a UUID once while preparing. For creating a buyer agreement, put a stable request ID and reviewed input in `new-project.json`, then run `create new-project.json`.

Read/export commands save a new file with owner-only permissions and refuse to overwrite an existing file. They check returned status nonces, but saving is not cryptographic verification. Verify the saved file separately:

```sh
node verify-result.mjs result.json independently-trusted-keys.json CURRENT_UTC_TIME
# Replace CURRENT_UTC_TIME with your actual UTC observation time (ISO 8601).
# Optional: --status=current-status.json --authority=approved-authority-policy.json
```

Historical validity survives status expiry; current status becomes unknown. Do not use an old observation time to make a stale status appear fresh.

## Evidence and compatibility

Signed actor records keep the accountable representative, organization, and original authority assurance. A signed `actor.execution` identifies the independent `agentId`, credential grant, agent name, authorizer, permitted action and authorization validity window. Receipt and project history label the agent and the person on whose behalf it acted. Human takeover removes delegation metadata on subsequent human events; it never rewrites history. The browser/offline verifier validates the execution snapshot as part of the same signed event. Historical validity does not claim that a credential is still active today.

No new orchestration engine, account hierarchy or alternate agreement state machine is introduced. The adapter shares transaction handling, immutable signed records, explicit confirmations, notifications and exact-file checks with the existing workspace.

External compatibility is intentionally source-neutral. A downstream system may bind a Prooftask task and agreement digest to its own procurement, storage, workflow or audit identifier, then retain the source reference and verification method alongside the exported record. A reference or fingerprint is a handoff contract; Prooftask does not fetch, endorse or silently verify that third-party system.

## Service plan and human purchase boundary

`/api/delivery-services/support` describes visible Record Delivery/Signed Delivery availability. A reference price is not a purchasable quote. Humans with current project and billing authority use `/delivery-service`; agent credentials do not authorize service purchases, signature preparation, evidence intake or final signature decisions. New signed policies require final ACCEPT/REJECT signing only; legacy policies retain every-review obligations. Always read the exact agreement, not a default inferred from the pricing page.
